Scientists use many techniques to accurately predict the weather. In future, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will also be helpful in this work. With the help of AI, storm forecasting will be more accurate, which will help reduce loss of life and property. All this will be possible with the new AI model of the giant company Nvidia, called Earth-2. It is said that these AI models, which are faster than supercomputers, can completely transform weather forecasting and climate change prediction. Some of these have already started being used.

What is Earth-2?
The world’s leading tech company Nvidia has introduced AI models named Earth-2. These models include frameworks like CorrDiff, FourCastNet3, Medium Range, Nowcasting, Global Data Assimilation, and PhysicsNeMo. PhysicsNeMo is designed to train and improve AI-physics models. All of these models integrate information from satellite, radar, and weather stations to accurately assess the state of our atmosphere.

Use of Generative AI
Many frameworks for Earth-2 AI models use generative AI. This makes forecasting much faster. It is claimed that these AI models can predict weather 500 times faster than existing technology.

Different models, different functions
Each framework has a different function in the Earth-2 AI model. According to a report by TechCrunch, the CorrDiff framework uses a generative AI architecture to transform continent-level forecasts into regional forecasts. Similarly, FourCastNet3 is designed to accurately forecast wind, temperature, and humidity. It is claimed that this model makes predictions 60 times faster than traditional models. Similarly, the PhysicsNeMo model is designed to train AI-physics models. According to the report, it is useful for both weather forecasting organizations and scientific research.

Supercomputer also failed
Earth-2 is so advanced and intelligent that it can detect changes in the atmosphere within a few seconds. It takes hours for a supercomputer to do this work. If changes are detected within seconds, alerts can be sent to people very quickly. Meteorological departments of many countries are already using some of NVIDIA’s frameworks.

CorrDiff is being used in Israel’s weather forecasting service. As mentioned, it makes forecasts by analyzing continent-level developments and regional assessments. Israel is also soon to adopt Nowcasting, which will provide weather forecasts with high-resolution graphics 8 times a day. In addition to Israel, meteorologists in Taiwan are also using several of NVIDIA’s frameworks.
