Rs 1 lakh crore RDI scheme will encourage private sector participation

New Delhi, November 6 (IANS). Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh stressed the importance of early industry linkages and continuous engagement of investors to promote innovation.

Highlighting the recently launched Rs 1 lakh crore RDI scheme, he said the initiative will encourage private sector participation and accelerate India’s deeptech revolution.

The second day of the Emerging Science and Technology Innovation Conclave (ESTIC 2025) saw a vibrant showcase of innovation and enterprise, PitchX @ESTIC 2025, featuring India’s deeptech startups and leading investors.

Professor Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, elaborated on the operational framework of the RDI scheme and announced that the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Technology Development Board (TDB) will soon make seed investments to support deeptech startups in emerging sectors.

The DeepTech Startup Showcase featured 30 successful startups nominated by various ministries and departments of the Government of India. The showcase underlined the government’s commitment to develop an innovation eco-system driven by research excellence, intellectual property creation and global competitiveness.

Furthermore, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh wrote in a post on social media platform

Regarding ESTIC 2025, he said that the launch of the Research, Development, Innovation (RDI) Fund Scheme of Rs 1 lakh crore by the PM during the inaugural session of the program was a major milestone in India’s scientific journey.

Union Minister Singh wrote, “This conclave exemplified the approach of ‘Whole-of-Government + Whole-of-Nation’. Young researchers and deep-tech startups reflect the innovation spirit of the new India. Academia-Industry-Government collaboration paves the way for long-term research development.”
