New Delhi, July 12 (IANS). Russian crude oil imports into India increased by 34 percent to 4.5 billion euros in June. The increase in imports has come at a time when global crude oil prices have seen a decline. This information was given in the report released by the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA).
It was reported that India has imported crude oil worth 4.5 billion euros from Russia in June. This has increased by 34 percent as compared to May. Crude oil accounted for 83 percent of India’s total Russian fossil fuel imports in June, worth 5.5 billion euros. India thus became the second largest buyer of Russian hydrocarbons after China.
The increase in purchases coincided with a 5.4 percent month-on-month increase in India’s total crude oil imports, with several major refineries seeing a sharp increase in Russian supplies.
According to CREA, Russian crude imports at Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refinery rose 150 percent from the previous month, while Indian Oil Corporation’s Paradip refinery recorded a 126 percent increase. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd’s Kochi refinery increased imports by 83 per cent and shipments at Nayara Energy’s Vadinar refinery rose 45 per cent.
In June, Russia’s crude oil exports increased by 14 percent due to higher demand from India. However, low crude oil prices impacted export earnings, causing Russia’s crude oil export earnings to decline to 348 million euros per day on a monthly basis.
Overall, Russia’s fossil fuel export earnings fell 1 percent to 734 million euros per day, according to the report, despite export volumes rising 7 percent during the month.
“India was the second-largest buyer of Russian fossil fuels in June 2026, importing Russian hydrocarbons totaling 5.5 billion euros. Crude oil accounted for 83 per cent of India’s total purchases, worth 4.5 billion euros,” CREA said.
The report further said that India’s remaining imports from Russia included oil products worth 488 million euros and coal worth 444 million euros.
