Scientists have created the world's smallest robot! Performs tasks many times larger than its size

The world’s smallest robot has arrived, and it’s much smaller than a grain of rice. Its makers claim that it is smaller than the lines on a fingerprint, yet it has many sensors and a solar power system. This little robot is so small that it can easily disappear from sight. Its size is 200 x 300 micrometres, and its thickness is just 50 micrometres. In comparison, a grain of rice has a thickness of 5,500 to 10,000 micrometers.

two universities created

This robot has been created jointly by researchers from University of Pennsylvania and University of Michigan. Its creators claim that no programmable robot of this size has ever been made before.

Fully Programmable Platform

Its makers claim that it is a completely programmable platform which works only when immersed in liquid. It can move, feel and react. It runs on solar cells.

Potential use in medical treatment

Its developers claim that this robot can be used in medical treatment and to monitor the reactions of medicines.

can check body temperature

This robot can easily measure temperature. It can communicate through dance-like movements, which are inspired by the way bees communicate. According to Mark Miskin, a nanorobotics engineer at the University of Pennsylvania, “This is really just the first chapter. We’ve shown how you can put a brain, a sensor, and a motor in a very small device, and it can survive for months.”
