Social media company Meta is going to launch two new models of Ray-Ban smart glasses. These glasses are specially designed for people who wear glasses. Although Meta and its partner company, EssilorLuxottica, already sell Ray-Ban smart glasses that can be fitted with eyeglass lenses, this is the first time they will be offering a model designed *specifically* for eyeglass wearers. These new glasses will be available in two designs: one square shaped and the other round. These will be sold primarily through optical stores and eye care channels. These will not be a new generation of Meta’s smart glasses, but will be based on existing technology.
Names of Meta’s smart glasses
Social media giant Meta sees smart glasses as an important part of its artificial intelligence (AI) strategy. Last year, the company launched a new version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses. In addition, it also introduced for the first time a model with an in-built display screen, which was named “Meta Ray-Ban Displays”. The codenames of these new smart glasses are “Scribbler” and “Blazer”.
New AI glasses for glasses wearers
These models are being designed especially for those who wear glasses. These were first seen in documents submitted to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC); Previously, no information had been revealed about their special design or their emphasis on compatibility with eyeglass lenses.
Earlier this year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted that the company would focus more on glasses wearers in the future. During a meeting, he explained that billions of people around the world wear glasses or contact lenses to correct their vision.
It is worth noting that Meta has had initial success in the smart glasses market. Now, other big tech companies including Apple are also entering this field. According to reports, Apple may start selling its first smart glasses as early as next year. However, these glasses will neither have a display nor any Augmented Reality (AR) feature.
