Instagram is testing a new paid subscription feature for its users, reportedly named “Instagram Plus.” This feature will specifically focus on improving Stories and giving users more control. According to reports, it may include many new tools, such as extending the duration of Stories, viewing rewatch data, and managing audiences. This move shows that Meta Platforms is now accelerating its efforts to promote paid services across all its platforms.
What is Instagram Plus, and how much will it cost?
According to reports, Instagram Plus is currently in the testing phase and is being trialled with a limited number of users in some select countries. Social media consultant Matt Navarra said the feature is being tested in the Philippines at a cost of about 65 Philippine pesos—equivalent to about 100 Indian rupees—per month. Users can also get a one-month free trial, after which the subscription will automatically renew. The feature is expected to be similar to Snapchat’s “Snapchat Plus.” However, the company has not yet officially shared complete information about this service or the date of its worldwide launch.
Amazing new features for Stories
The main focus of Instagram Plus is to strengthen the Stories feature. This will allow users to create different audience groups and decide who can see their Stories. Additionally, users will also be able to see how many times their Stories have been viewed. There will also be an option to see the preview of the story before posting it. A special feature is that users will be able to watch someone else’s Story without revealing their identity (without appearing in the viewer list) and will be able to “Spotlight” one of their Stories every week so that it can reach more people. Additionally, features like “Super Likes” and “Super Hearts” can also be added to further increase user engagement.
Preparation for longer stories and new AI updates
Instagram Plus could give users the option to keep their Stories live longer than the current 24-hour limit—a marked departure from the current system. This will benefit both creators and users as their content will remain visible for longer periods of time. Apart from this, the platform is also preparing to bring many more big updates in the coming time. The company recently announced that end-to-end encrypted chat support will be discontinued from May 8, after which users will have to download their old messages and media. All these updates indicate that Instagram is working towards changing its platform in new ways and giving users more control.
