Mumbai, June 19 (IANS). Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Friday said a strong testing and certification infrastructure is necessary to protect the interests of consumers, improve product reliability and promote ease of doing business.

Laying the foundation stone for expansion of testing facilities at the National Testing Center (NTH) campus in Mumbai, the Minister said that a strong quality assurance system plays an important role in ensuring product reliability and promoting ease of doing business.

He said that world-class testing infrastructure is an important pillar of the government’s vision of a self-reliant India.

The Minister said that it is necessary to strengthen the quality system of the country to improve the global competitiveness of Indian products and pursue the vision of self-reliant India.

The Minister visited the NTH Mumbai campus to mark a significant milestone in the expansion of the country’s quality assurance and testing infrastructure.

The program commenced with the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony and laying of the foundation stone for future expansion of testing facilities in the campus.

Joshi appreciated the efforts of the Department of Consumer Affairs and the National Testing Center in expanding advanced testing capabilities across the country and making quality testing services more accessible to industries and consumers.

He also visited Mumbai-based laboratories and interacted with scientists, technical experts and officials to review the ongoing modernization initiatives and testing capabilities.

During the event, the Minister inaugurated a microbiological testing laboratory at the National Testing Centre, Mumbai.

He also virtually inaugurated the Northern Regional Center of the National Test Center at Ghaziabad and the NTH-Auric Satellite Center located at Auric City of the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

These newly inaugurated facilities are expected to significantly increase testing capacity in key areas, strengthen compliance with national and international standards and contribute to consumer safety and industrial competitiveness.
