Chennai, February 28 (IANS). Tamil Nadu Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Corporation (TNUAVC) has initiated a partnership with drone manufacturing companies and service providers across the country to develop robust drone systems in the state.
The aim of this corporation is to make maximum use of drone technology in the work of government departments, so that the work can be done quickly and transparently. Officials said that drones will be used in areas like municipal administration, farming, police, forest department, water resources and disaster relief.
A senior official of the Higher Education Department said that TNUAVC has started the process of shortlisting qualified drone manufacturing companies and experienced service providers. The official said the company should have the facility to manufacture drones and must have supplied at least five drones to government agencies. Apart from this, it is necessary to have a certificate from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for research and its development.
According to officials, companies offering drone-based services like air mapping, land survey, crop monitoring and precision spraying will be considered. The official further said that the service provider should have experience in executing government projects using drone technology.
For the selection process, TNUAVC will examine the past performance of the companies, including details of the states where the companies have provided services.
This step will be instrumental in Tamil Nadu emerging as a technology and innovation center in emerging areas like unmanned systems and advanced robotics.
Officials believe that strategic integration of drone technology across various departments will not only improve efficiency and transparency, but also contribute to better disaster preparedness, agricultural productivity and urban planning across Tamil Nadu.
