Elon Musk’s company, Neuralink, is building a chip that can read thoughts. This chip is implanted inside the brain and it can understand the thoughts going on in the mind. Now, a new startup is preparing to challenge this technology. This startup is making a cap-like device that will convert the thoughts coming to the mind directly into text. Its specialty is that unlike Neuralink, it will not require surgery to be implanted in the brain. Let us know who is making this device and how it will work.
A hat-like device that does wonders
A California startup called Sabi is building a hat-like device. This hat will use electroencephalography (EEG) technology, which records the electrical activity of the brain through sensors placed on the skin of the head. According to the report, the wearable device—which looks like a hat—will be equipped with thousands of sensors. The startup claims that with the help of this device, users will be able to convert the thoughts coming in their mind into text. Initially, the typing speed is expected to be around 30 words per minute. Over time, the system will be able to increase this speed depending on the user’s usage patterns.
harnessing the power of AI
Along with this device, the startup is also building an AI model. This model is being trained using neural data so that it can understand brain signals better. Work on this entire technology is currently underway, and it is expected to be launched by the end of the year. As of now, the startup has not provided any information regarding the pricing; However, users can visit the startup’s website and sign up to get early access.
How does Neuralink’s chip work?
The chip, made by Musk’s company, Neuralink, is also called a brain-computer interface (BCI). It is surgically implanted in a specific part of the brain that is responsible for controlling a person’s movement intentions. In 2024, the company successfully implanted the device into a patient’s brain for the first time. Recently, it was reported that with the help of this chip, ALS patient Kenneth Schock is able to communicate once again. He had lost the ability to speak, but now with the help of this chip he is able to share the thoughts going on in his mind with the world.
