The main objective of the government is to ensure food security of the country: Shivraj Singh Chauhan

New Delhi, November 17 (IANS). Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said on Monday that the main objective of the government is to ensure food security of the country, provide nutritious food to the people and keep agriculture business profitable for the farmers.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the Asian Seed Congress 2025 in Mumbai. The logo of Asian Seed Congress 2025 was also released at this inaugural ceremony.

In his address, the Agriculture Minister said that the government has paid special attention to increasing the productivity per hectare, providing good quality seeds to the farmers and reducing the cost of production.

He said that the government has also continuously paid attention to ensuring fair prices to farmers for their produce, providing compensation to them and diversification of agricultural practices.

He appealed to the private sector to reduce the prices of seeds and laid special emphasis on the fact that in order to develop high quality seeds, the contribution of the public sector as well as the private sector is very important.

He said that private sector seeds are expensive and most of the farmers belong to the deprived class, due to which it is difficult for them to bear the cost of these seeds.

While suggesting, Union Minister Chauhan said that if such seeds are made available to the farmers, which do not need to be changed throughout the year, then a major concern of the farming community will be removed.

He asked the companies to solve the problem of low quality, non-germinating seeds with low germination capacity. Apart from this, instructions were also given to take action against those responsible for this.

Addressing the seed producers, the Union Minister said that there is a need for more research and development in the field of coarse grain production. He asked private companies to bring their problems before the government.
