If you use UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm for online payment, then there is a big update for you. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made a major change in the UPI rule, under which you will no longer be able to use the P2P Collect request (Bridge Transaction) feature. This new rule has come into effect from 1 October. Let us know in detail about this new rule and the reasons for implementing it …

What is the new rule?

NPCI has issued instructions to all banks and payment apps to completely discontinue the P2P Collect request system from October 1, 2025. This means that from today, they will neither be able to send any collect request nor accept it. This major step has been taken to increase user safety and prevent online fraud.

Why was this change done?

In recent times, there have been many cases where this collecting request feature has been used to cheat people. Often, fraudsters send requests to innocent people to send money, and people accept them without thinking, causing money to be deducted from their accounts. Therefore, NPCI has decided to close this facility from today, so that users can send money only in safe ways.

Now what options do you have?
If you were using this “Collect request” facility, now you will not be able to do so. Instead, now you will have to ask another person to send money manually through push transactions. You can use QR code, UPI ID or bank account number for payment. Also, keep your UPI and banking apps updated.
