UIDAI partners with research consultancy BIT to promote Aadhaar update among children

New Delhi, November 11 (IANS). According to information given by the Ministry of Electronics and IT on Tuesday, UIDAI has partnered with research consultancy Behavioral Insights Limited (BIT). This partnership aims to help children and youth access vital services with timely biometric updates of their Aadhaar cards.

The MoU was signed by Tanushree Deb Barma, DDG, UIDAI, and Ravi Gurumurthy, Group CEO, BIT, in the presence of Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO, UIDAI, and other members of the UIDAI leadership team.

According to official information, the objective of the MoU is to promote Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) in Aadhaar for children between 5 years and 15 years and remove practical, logistical and awareness related barriers to ensure timely updates. Also, to enable seamless access to Aadhaar linked services and benefits.

The ministry said that customized behavioral interventions will be designed, tested and implemented to promote Aadhaar MBU updates.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO, UIDAI said, “When technology is combined with human behavior, digital identity transforms from a technical process to a more seamless, reliable and empowering experience. Through this MoU, we hope to achieve this impact.”

Rachel Coyle, CEO of BIT, said new evidence-based understanding of human behavior can boost Aadhaar updates and help Aadhaar number holders access important public services.

As an Aadhaar card holder, a child needs to get biometric updates like fingerprint and photo updated in the Aadhaar card at the age of 5 years and then again at the age of 15 years. UIDAI has waived off all MBU fees for the age group of 7-15, which is expected to benefit approximately 6 crore children.
