New Delhi, June 16 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday launched the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service at the prestigious retail store Galeries Lafayette located in Nice Massena, France. He described this as an important step towards the global expansion of India’s world-class digital payments system.

He further said that this initiative with the partnership of Lyra Collect and NIPL showcases India’s ability to provide reliable, seamless and interoperable digital solutions at scale.
The Union Minister said that this initiative will further strengthen economic and technological cooperation between India and France and will help in taking the strategic partnership of both the countries to new heights.
Earlier, Piyush Goyal said that India-France relations have gained new momentum under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron. Cooperation between the two countries in strategic, economic, technological and innovation related areas is continuously increasing.
During the France visit, the Minister also attended a special dinner event hosted by renowned jurist and IIT Delhi Board Chairman Harish Salve. During this, he held discussions with industry representatives, academicians, researchers and experts related to innovation sector from India and France.
He called on French companies and investors to be part of India’s development journey and contribute to building a more prosperous and sustainable future for both countries.
During his visit to France, Piyush Goyal also visited Sophia Antipolis, Europe’s largest science and technology centre. It is often referred to as the “Silicon Valley of Europe”.
Goyal said that this technology hub is a great example of how research, talent and industry can together drive innovation and economic growth. More than 2,600 companies are working here in various cutting-edge technological fields.
