New Delhi, December 23 (IANS). A major success has been achieved in strengthening India’s defense capabilities. The Defense Ministry said that the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully completed the user evaluation trials of ‘Next Generation Akash Missile System’ i.e. Akash-NG.
With these tests, the way has been cleared for this state-of-the-art missile system to be included in the Indian Armed Forces.
During the trials, the Akash-NG missile system demonstrated excellent accuracy against a variety of aerial threats. This system effectively hit high-flying, low-altitude targets as well as long-range and high-altitude targets. According to defense experts, this demonstration is considered a major step forward for India’s air defense capability.
Akash-NG is completely equipped with indigenous technology. It has been fitted with an indigenously developed Radio Frequency (RF) seeker, which is capable of capturing targets with great precision. Along with this, dual-pulse solid rocket motor has been used in it, which gives more power and better control to the missile. The radar and command and control (C2) system used in this system is also completely indigenous, which further strengthens India’s self-reliant defense technology.
Earlier this month, DRDO had achieved another important achievement. The organization successfully conducted high-speed rocket-sled test of the escape system of the fighter aircraft. The test was conducted at the Rail Track Rocket Sled (RTRS) facility of Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh. During this, the rocket-sled was driven at a controlled speed of 800 kilometers per hour.
The test successfully verified several critical safety parameters including the complete and safe recovery of the aircrew. The Defense Ministry says that both these successes will not only strengthen India’s defense preparedness, but will also give new direction and momentum to indigenous defense research.
