Facebook and Instagram’s parent company Meta has now included Hindi and Portuguese languages in its new AI-powered translation feature. Launching in August 2025, the feature can now automatically translate reels into different languages without any additional settings.
A great gift for content creators
According to Meta, this feature is especially beneficial for creators who want to reach a larger audience. The company says that this tool preserves the sound and tone of your voice so that the reel sounds like your voice. Lip-syncing is also so precise that your lip movements match the translated audio exactly.
Instagram chief demonstrated this feature
“Most videos on Instagram are in languages you don’t understand, but that doesn’t mean you’re not interested in them,” Instagram chief Adam Mosseri explained in a video. He demonstrated this feature by speaking in Hindi, Spanish and Portuguese. This feature is currently available to all public Instagram accounts and Facebook creators with more than 1,000 followers. Creators can turn this on or off and choose to review or delete their translated Reels.
Users will also get freedom
Unlike YouTube’s auto-dubbing system, the Meta feature is not limited to creators only. Viewers can also choose whether they want to watch the reel in their own language or in the original language. Simply go to the three-dot menu while watching a reel and select “Don’t translate” in the audio and language settings.
New option while uploading reels
Meta explained that when a creator uploads a Reel, they will get a new option to “Translate your voice with Meta AI.” This option allows creators to decide whether they want to enable lip-syncing with translations or not.
performance tracking
When a translated Reel is published, creators will also be shown the number of views in each language. This will help them understand which languages are getting the most engagement for their reels. Meta notes that this feature works best for face-to-camera videos, where the speaker’s face and lips are clearly visible.
