YouTube has released a new and innovative feature, Ask, on its platform, which is currently being tested for a limited number of users. This feature is designed to make the video watching experience even smarter and more interactive. It lets you ask questions about the video, get a summary of it, understand key points, and even give quizzes based on the content. This means YouTube is no longer just a video platform, but also your AI chat companion.
Where can I find the Ask button?
In select YouTube videos, you’ll now see a new Ask button with a Gemini icon. This button is located just below the video, between the Share and Download options. This feature is available on all platforms: Android, iPhone and Windows PC.
How does this feature work?
When you click on the Ask button, a chat window opens on the screen. Here, you can type in your question or choose from suggested options, such as a summary of the video, recommended content, and others. The answer is then generated on the fly using a Large Language Model (LLM), also known as Gemini AI.
Which countries and users will this feature be available to?
The feature is currently available to both YouTube Premium and non-Premium users. It is currently available only in English and is only available to audiences over the age of 18. The feature is currently available in India, the United States, Canada and New Zealand. YouTube is planning to launch it in more countries in the coming months.
YouTube’s second big AI upgrade
YouTube recently introduced another AI-enabled feature that automatically upgrades low quality videos to HD (high definition). The feature is being rolled out in a phased manner from October 29 and will soon be available to all users around the world.
