The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that ‘goons’ of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attacked the convoy of senior AAP leader and Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain. Party sources said that the incident took place at Goyla Dairy-Najafgarh Nala culvert at around 12 noon on Sunday. However, the Delhi BJP has denied AAP’s allegation.
The AAP said residents of Chawla area of Delhi’s South-West district had opposed the new liquor policy of the Arvind Kejriwal-led government. In a series of tweets, the AAP alleged that the BJP’s Delhi unit deployed its ‘goons’ to attack Jain’s convoy as it realized that it was going to lose the upcoming civic polls.
The party also posted a video footage of the alleged attack on Twitter. Delhi Chief Minister and AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet, “This is BJP. A party of very goons and ruffians. When they are losing, they show their mettle. The public will tell them their status.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said in a statement that while there was no hooliganism against minister Satyendar Jain, the local residents of Chawla area had only opposed the new liquor policy of the Kejriwal government. He said that it is really sad that an agitator, the Aam Aadmi Party born out of the movement cannot tolerate people’s protest.
Delhi BJP media relations head Harish Khurana also hit out at AAP and condemned Kejriwal’s remarks. He said that the kind of words used by Arvind Kejriwal ji that he was a BJP goon and his position should be shown to him, BJP condemns it. Arvind Kejriwal sahib you should know that he was not from BJP. They were the local people opposing your excise policy. You are doing very bad politics.
AAP’s chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj termed the incident as shameful and blamed the BJP for the incident. He asked in a tweet, “This is very shameful. BJP is in fear of defeat. What has been done to Satyendra Jain, what would have been the drama, if it had been done to the Prime Minister?”
A senior police officer said that when the minister was passing through Najafgarh, some people climbed on the bonnet of his vehicle and opposed him. As soon as the information was received, a police team reached the spot ‘immediately’, the official said. The official said the road was cleared within 10-15 minutes and he proceeded peacefully without any disturbance.
Police said that no complaint has been received so far. If any complaint is received, legal action will be taken accordingly, he added.
