After the defeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab, many questions have been raised on the local leaders. Questions have also arisen on many senior leaders including BJP district presidents. In view of this, there is a possibility of change in the organizational structure of the state unit of BJP. BJP had high hopes from the recently held assembly elections, but the saffron party got only 6.6 per cent votes and 54 of the party’s 73 candidates lost their deposits.
After the election results, the party had called a meeting of ‘Vistarak’ in Chandigarh on March 15. It was attended by top BJP and RSS leaders including BJP’s national joint general secretary (organisation) Shiv Prakash, state general secretary (organisation) Pawan Rana and BJP state president Ashwini Sharma. Around 35 ‘Vistaraks’ had attended the meeting.
Was asked to give a written report about the defeat
Sources said the party ‘Vistarak’ was asked to submit a written report regarding the electoral defeat. It was a general idea that grassroots leaders failed to take the campaign to the masses. Serious questions were also raised on the conduct of the leadership. Sources said the possibility of a change in the party leadership is bright after some “expansive” adverse reports.
