The Punjab Assembly on Friday passed a resolution demanding immediate transfer of Chandigarh to the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also accused the central government of trying to disturb the balance between the administration of the union territory as well as the common assets.
Commenting on the Punjab CM’s move, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar said that the city will remain the joint capital of both the states. Let us inform that Chandigarh is presently the joint capital of Haryana and Punjab.
Khattar also lauded the Central Government’s move to impose Central Service Rules on the employees of the Union Territory and accused the Punjab Government of misleading the people on the issue.
The Punjab Assembly on Friday passed a resolution at a time when Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said a few days ago that now the Central Service Rules will be applicable to the employees of the Union Territory. However, the move has been termed by many parties as an encroachment on the rights of the state.
“Chandigarh will remain the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana. Apart from Chandigarh, there are many other issues to be discussed in the two states,” Khattar told reporters here. BJP leader Khattar said that the Center took the decision after considering the demands and interests of the employees of the Union Territories.
The Haryana CM said the Punjab government was misleading the public on the issue, claiming that the move would benefit the employees “a lot”.
He said that earlier the employees of Chandigarh had to depend on the Punjab Government for every single order of the Central Government.
The CM said that earlier, orders regarding allowances or other benefits issued by the central government were implemented in Chandigarh only after Punjab issued a notification, but now all these orders will be directly applicable to the UT employees. ,
He said that Punjab has not yet given the benefit of 7th Pay Commission to its employees while Haryana implemented the recommendations in 2016.
He said that the employees of Chandigarh were also deprived of these benefits till now but now after the implementation of the new rules, they will get all these benefits.
Khattar also told reporters that Gurugram would be developed as a “global city” and a meeting in this regard was held with leading real estate developers across the country here. He said that based on the suggestions given in the meeting, the government would plan to develop Gurugram as a ‘global city’.
