PM Imran Khan’s cunning on the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition in Pakistan can only cost him. According to Pakistani media reports, while hearing the matter on Thursday, the Supreme Court commented that the decision of the Deputy Speaker on the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan in the National Assembly was wrong.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Umar Ata Bandiyal, comprises Justices Ejaz-ul Ahsan, Mazhar Alam Khan Miyankhail, Muneeb Akhtar and Jamal Khan Mandokhail. According to the news of ‘Dawn’ newspaper, Bandiyal asked Senator Ali Zafar, the lawyer of President Arif Alvi, that if everything is going according to the constitution, then where is the constitutional crisis in the country? Bandiyal’s remarks came during the completion of his arguments on behalf of Zafar.
On one occasion, Bandiyal asked the lawyer why he was not telling whether there was a constitutional crisis in the country or not. The Chief Justice said, ‘If everything is happening according to the Constitution, then where is the crisis?’ During the hearing, Miyankhail asked Zafar whether the Prime Minister was a public representative. So the lawyer replied yes. Miankhail then asked if the Prime Minister would be saved if the Constitution was violated in Parliament? To this, Zafar replied that the protection of the Constitution should be according to the rules laid down in it. He said that every article has to be kept in mind to protect the constitution.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought details of the National Security Council (NSC) meeting from the government to find out more about the alleged foreign conspiracy and deferred its decision on whether Imran Khan had refused to face the no-confidence motion in Parliament. Have violated the constitution by dissolving it or not.
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri on Sunday rejected the no-confidence motion, citing it being linked to an alleged foreign conspiracy to topple the government. A few minutes later, President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on the advice of Prime Minister Khan.
