Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s visit to India has removed the bitterness in relations between the two countries. Experts believe that the meeting between the two countries on Saturday will bring new warmth to the old ties. The way many new beginnings have been made between the two countries, it will further weaken China’s hold on Nepal and India-Nepal relations will deepen.
During the previous communist government in Nepal, the reason for the tension in the relations was Nepal’s exaggerated claim and issue of maps on some places on the border like Lipulekh, Kalapani etc. Then it was understood that the communist government was playing at the behest of China because the way the issues were politicized was very shocking. But on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi clearly said that there is an open border between India and Nepal and the disputes related to it should not be politicised. The Prime Minister of Nepal has also appeared to agree with this. He has also agreed to resolve the matters through talks.
visible change
The change in the attitude of Nepal is already visible during the tenure of the present government. But the real problem is that Deuba’s government is also based on the support of many communist groups, so it does not seem that the issue will be put aside immediately. But still it is expected that through the fixed mechanism, it will be resolved in the coming days. It is also certain that now this issue will not take the same political stand as before. The way Oli Sarkar gave air to this issue, only then the majority of the people of India and Nepal came to know about it. During the meeting, India also explained to him that just as all the border disputes between India and Bangladesh have been resolved, similarly the disputes between India and Nepal can also be resolved.
Big blow for China
The launch of India’s RuPay card in Nepal is also a big setback for China. China was trying to run its Ali Pay app there, which is an app like BHIM UPI. There were allegations that tax evasion is increasing through this app. India’s diplomacy came in handy in this matter and RuPay has been launched there. It is also important because RuPay will play an important role in the digitalization of Nepal’s economy.
China’s bad days in Nepal case
If foreign affairs experts are to be believed, the days of China are already going bad in the case of Nepal. The Millennium Corporation Challenge (MCC) agreement between the US and Nepal, which has been hanging for five years, has recently been approved by the Parliament of Nepal despite China’s unwillingness. When the US warned of a review of bilateral relations, the Deuba government approved it.
Under this agreement, Nepal has to get $ 500 million from the US for development works, while China did not want America to invest there. This move is also a big setback for China in Nepal. Apart from this, the old relations between India-Nepal are likely to get new dimensions from the start of the long-stayed railway service and other agreements.
