The government has alerted the cyber fraudsters in the name of cashback in the country. Cyber Dost, a Twitter handle under the Ministry of Home Affairs, states that there is a need to beware of all the fraudulently attractive advertisements on social media related to discount coupons, cashback and festival coupons offering payment through UPI app.
This is how cheating is done
It has also been said in the tweet that only vigilance can keep it safe from cyber crime. According to the Reserve Bank, cyber fraudsters send such tempting links of people for phishing and trap them in their nets. Fraudulent gangs create fake websites that look absolutely real. It is a copy of a website related to a bank, search engine or e-commerce. Then through these, fraudulent links are sent to the people.

These links are sent to people by SMS, e-mail, WhatsApp and social media or in their messenger box. Many customers click those links without knowing it. Along with this, by getting caught in the whirlpool of tempting offers, they share all the important information related to their bank. These include their password, ATM PIN and even OTP. These things are used through gangs of fraudsters.
RBI advice
The Reserve Bank has advised people not to click on any such unknown links. Also, such fraudulent messages should be deleted immediately. Not only this, the subscription of such emails should also be stopped and the emails from which such messages come should also be blocked so that no fake link is clicked by mistake. The Reserve Bank also says that while doing financial transactions or making any purchases, the real website should be used directly.
Internet banking frauds down in 2021
According to government data, 69818 cases related to internet banking fraud were reported in the country during the financial year 2020-21. At the same time, 73552 fraud cases were reported earlier in the financial year 2019-20. These figures released by the Reserve Bank also include matters related to UPI, debit cards and credit cards.
