The Congress on Saturday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the hike in prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas and several other essential commodities, saying the Prime Minister is secular in the matter of inflation as he does not discriminate against anyone. The party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala also alleged that an additional burden of Rs 1,25,407 crore has been put on the public due to the increase in the prices of fuel and essential commodities in the recent past.
Talking to reporters on Saturday, Randeep Surjewal said, “Inflation has now become an event in this country. The country is battered and plagued by expensive Modi-ism. BJP’s electoral victory has become a ‘license of loot’. The inflation which was increased from April 1, has put a burden of Rs 1,25,407 crore on the public.

He said, “The burden of tax has been put on 62 crore food donors of the country. The government is taking revenge of the farmers’ agitation. The price per bag of DAP fertilizer has been increased by Rs 150. Modi ji gives a ‘good morning gift’ to the people of the country to increase the price of petrol and diesel every day. Petrol and diesel prices have been increased by Rs 7.20 per liter in the last 12 days. LPG prices have been hiked several times.
The Congress general secretary claimed that by increasing the price of petrol, diesel and cooking gas, it is earning about one lakh crore rupees. Raising the issue of increase in toll, he said that it has increased the additional burden of Rs 6,120 crore on the common people.
Surjewala said that from April 1, the prices of about 800 essential medicines have been increased by 10.7 percent. According to an estimate, due to the increase in the price of medicines, people will have to pay an additional 10 thousand crore rupees. He also claimed that the Modi government has also made it difficult for the people to buy a house and car and has hurt the common people by reducing the interest rate on the provident fund.
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, the Congress leader said, “Modi ji is secular in the matter of inflation. He does not differentiate between Hindus and Muslims. They don’t see religion and caste in inflation.” Surjewala alleged, “BJP has understood one thing that divide the society on the basis of religion, gain power and put money in the pockets of some industrialists.”
