Assam Police has killed two persons, including the main accused of raping two girls, in separate incidents. Both the accused were allegedly trying to escape from police custody. In the first incident in Guwahati, the accused allegedly attacked police personnel, who opened fire on him. The accused was taken to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), where he was declared brought dead.
Special Director General of Police G P Singh said that both the accused were arrested on Tuesday and were being taken to their respective crime scene in Guwahati and a tea garden in Udalguri for further investigation. During that both tried to escape from custody after midnight. GMCH superintendent Abhijeet Sharma said the accused was brought to the hospital around 1 am with four bullets in his body.
Sharma said, “When he was brought here, he had no heartbeat. We have kept his body in the morgue and will hand it over to his family after post-mortem. According to a police officer, two women policemen were injured in the attack by the accused, but they are now out of danger. The accused, who was on the run after the girl’s mother lodged a police complaint on March 8, was arrested from Dampur area of Kamrup district on Tuesday, they said.
A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five men at a hotel in Guwahati on February 16. The accused had also made a video of the incident and were threatening to leak it. Special Director General of Police Singh said that in another incident the accused had smuggled a tea in Udalguri district on March 10.
An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Bagan. The girl’s body was recovered the next day. The accused was arrested from a factory in Changsari area of Kamrup district and he tried to escape after which he was gunned down by the police.
