BJP sources say that Pramod Sawant may once again get the throne of Goa. It is believed that Sawant may get the gift of victory after a close contest in the regional elections. BJP sources told Hindustan Times that Pramod Sawant may take oath as the Chief Minister of Goa on March 24. BJP Legislature Party meeting has been scheduled for Monday.
Goa’s caretaker CM Pramod Sawant, however, did not openly say that he would be the next Chief Minister of the state. But definitely said that he had gone to Delhi yesterday, BJP observers will come here tomorrow (Monday) for the legislature party meeting. A decision regarding the swearing-in ceremony will also be taken tomorrow evening.
If reports are to be believed, Sawant along with his party colleague Vishwajit Rane had met Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi a day earlier. Sources say that Rane had expressed his desire to become the chief minister. Rane, however, told news agency PTI, “The meeting was on various issues related to Goa.”
The meeting between caretaker Chief Minister Sawant, Rane and Shah comes days after the BJP won 20 seats in the 40-member Goa assembly. Two MLAs of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and three independent MLAs have agreed to form the government with the BJP.
Significantly, the BJP won the Goa Assembly elections with a vote share of 33.3%, while the Congress secured 23.46% votes, which is almost 5 percent less than in the state in 2017.
