Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has once again placed his demands in front of the government. At the same time, he has also warned that if the need arises, he is ready for the agitation again. Recently, he has conveyed his demands to President Ram Nath Kovind. During the movement that ended last year, Tikait had emerged as a big farmer leader. In November 2021, the government announced the withdrawal of three agricultural laws.
On Friday, Tikait addressed about 50 farm unions and social organizations in Mohali. He said that the farmers’ struggle is not over and if the Center thinks that the United Kisan Morcha has split, then they are wrong. They have indicated that they are ready to strike again.
The farmers have demanded to withdraw the decision to abolish the permanent representation of the members of Punjab and Haryana in the BBMB. Apart from this, action has been demanded against those who distort Sikh history in the syllabus books of Punjab School Education Board, action against Union Minister Ajay Mishra in Lakhimpur Kheri violence case and punishment to Ashish Mishra and his associates.
Apart from this, the farmer leaders are demanding the release of farmer prisoners, legislation to fix the minimum support price on all crops based on the recommendations of Swaminathan Committee and guarantee of purchase of all crops under MSP. A 35-member delegation led by Tikait and Dr. Darshan Pal has submitted a memorandum to President Kovind through Governor Banwali Lal Purohit.
