The BJP may have got a thumping majority in Uttar Pradesh, but the employees and the elderly and sick have taken their steps. This picture has emerged after the counting of postal ballots. The BJP has got support in Noida, Kanpur, Moradabad and Prayagraj but in smaller cities it is very clean.
In Braj, the BJP got a lot of support, while out of nine seats in the Chief Minister’s home district Gorakhpur, only his city area and the Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency Varanasi got a lead in the counting of postal ballots only in four out of eight seats. The same is the case with the capital Lucknow, where the BJP was left behind in eight out of nine seats.
This time the Election Commission had given the facility of voting through postal ballot to the employees as well as the elderly and the disabled. Because of this, the importance of the postal ballot votes this time was also more. Let’s talk about the capital Lucknow. Here, Ashutosh Tandon got the lead in the counting of postal ballots from Lucknow East seat, the SP was overwhelming in the remaining eight seats.
Similarly, in the Chief Minister’s home district Gorakhpur, apart from the city seat, in the remaining eight seats, SP was the choice of employees and the elderly and disabled, who voted by postal ballot, while the BJP has won all nine seats. Talking about 41 seats of Gorakhpur-Basti Mandal, the BJP alliance has won 34 of these seats, but has gained only two seats in the postal ballot. In 2017, the BJP had made a lead in the postal ballot on six seats in both the divisions.
Equal only in Varanasi in Purvanchal
The match of postal ballot in Varanasi is like a tie, where BJP on four seats and SP on four has registered a lead in postal ballot. Shashikant Srivastava, District President of the State Employees Union Council, explains the warning of the employees as the reason for the lagging behind in the postal ballot on the seats won.
The BJP got the maximum number of postal ballots in seven out of 10 seats in Kanpur. However, in all the districts including Mau, Ballia, Azamgarh, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Sonbhadra of Purvanchal, as well as in Bundelkhand and Awadh region, the BJP has lost in the postal voting.
Hands pulled with BJP but from allies
In Prayagraj, the BJP has won seven out of 12 seats – Allahabad North, Allahabad West, Allahabad South, Karchana, Koraon, Phaphamau and Phulpur. The BJP has also won these seats on the postal ballot.
In Bara, the ally Apna Dal ‘S’ may have won the seat, but got less votes in the postal ballot. The remaining four seats Pratappur, Meja, Handia and Soraon have been won by SP and here in the postal ballot also SP is ahead. In the year 2017 also, the picture of BJP was similar and the ally could not get an edge in the postal ballot.
