BSP has suffered a crushing defeat in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022. In this election, the party has got the only success in Rasra seat of Ballia district. Umashankar Singh won Rasra seat by securing 87,887 votes defeating his nearest rival Mahendra of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) by a margin of 6,583 votes. Mahendra got 81,304 votes. This is the third consecutive victory of Umashankar Singh from this seat.

Contested elections for the first time in 2012
Umashankar, the lone BSP MLA, used to do contractors earlier. He contested the assembly elections for the first time in the year 2012 and won. After this, he won in 2017 also and this time he managed to open the account of BSP by putting a hat-trick of victory. After winning the victory, Umashankar Singh has thanked the people of his area.
