Trying to give air to the issue of Bengali identity, former Union Minister Babul Supriyo on Monday raised questions on the central government. Supriyo asked why no Bengali was included in the Union Cabinet even after the BJP government at the Center for eight years. Supriyo said, “In the last eight years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah never felt that a Bengali should be made a cabinet minister. Do they think that Bengali people are not eligible to become cabinet ministers?”
Trinamool President Mamata Banerjee has declared Babul Supriyo as the candidate for the by-election to the Ballygunge assembly seat. Babul Supriyo said that the parties in North India have always ignored Bengalis. I want to thank Mamata Banerjee for giving me the opportunity to serve the people.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah never realized that a Bengali can be made a cabinet minister. Do they think a Bengali is not fit to be a cabinet minister? Parties in North India have always neglected Bengali. I left the BJP because I was removed from the post of Union Minister.”
Question on nominating Shatrughan Sinha from Asansol
Supriyo, a two-time BJP MP, was removed from the post of minister last year following a reshuffle in the Union ministry. A few months later, he joined the Trinamool. He was questioned over the contradictions in the Trinamool’s ‘inside-outside’ poll issue on nominating Shatrughan Sinha for the Asansol seat. To this Supriyo said that there is no such thing as he is a famous actor and a well-known name across the country.
