As soon as the new vehicle registration series UK08 BM was launched by the Transport Department in Haridwar, unprecedented enthusiasm was seen for fancy (VIP/Fancy) registration numbers. Vehicle owners participated enthusiastically in the online e-auction, resulting in bids worth lakhs of rupees on many favorite numbers. The overwhelming response received as soon as the new series opened made it clear that the attraction of fancy numbers is continuously increasing.
For how much were VIP numbers purchased?
UK08 BM 0009 was the most talked about item in the e-auction, receiving the highest bid of ₹5,40,000. Apart from this, there were bids of ₹ 4,91,000 for UK08 BM 0001, ₹ 3,88,000 for UK08 BM 0007, ₹ 1,73,000 for UK08 BM 0008, ₹ 1,41,000 for UK08 BM 0002 and ₹ 91,000 for UK08 BM 9000. People also bid enthusiastically for other attractive numbers like 0005, 0006, 0004, 1111, 8888, 5555, 0101, 0099, 0077 and 0999.
State government’s bumper earnings
The Transport Department has received significant revenue from this e-auction of fancy numbers. This is not only a significant contribution to the income of the state government, but also shows that people are willing to spend additional amounts for unique registration numbers linked to their choice and identity. Due to the online e-auction system, the entire process was completely transparent, fair and convenient.

Assistant Divisional Transport Officer (Administration), Haridwar, Shri Nikhil Sharma said that as soon as the new series was launched, citizens showed immense enthusiasm for the fancy numbers. He said that the online e-auction system of the Transport Department is completely transparent and interested citizens can get the registration number of their choice as per the prescribed procedure. He said that the revenue generated from fancy numbers is an important income source for the state government and such e-auctions will continue to be conducted regularly in future also.
