The year 1999 will be remembered in the history of India for centuries. This is because this was the year when the Indian brave sons not only dusted Pakistan in the war, but also chewed it by showing their valor. In this war that lasted for about 60 days, the Indian Army had dust Pakistan on every front. Indian heroes introduced their valor that the enemies of the country had flew the senses. 1. Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav
Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav was targeted to capture three strategic bunkers on Tiger Hill. Even after being shot three times, he continued the fight. The second bunker was destroyed and ordered his platoon to move forward. He was martyred in this war. He was awarded the ‘Paramveer Chakra’.
2. Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey
Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey was targeted to remove enemy soldiers from the Butthi sector. He worked to chase the intruders back. He was martyred amid fierce shelling. Before being martyred, he captured Jubar Top and Khalubar Hill. Posthumously honored with ‘Paramveer Chakra’.
3. Captain Vikram Batra
Commission received in 13 JAK Rifles in December 1997. His code name was ‘Sher Shah’ during the Kargil war. He captured the critical point 5140. He voluntarily participated in the fight to capture point 4875. On 7 July 1999, he was martyred in the war on point 4875. After the success of this mission, he became famous as ‘Yeh Dil Maange More’. He was posthumously awarded the ‘Paramveer Chakra’.
5 Rifleman Sanjay Kumar
Introduced indomitable courage in the battle on the flat peak in the region. Three Pakistani soldiers were killed in an attack on Dushanan’s bunker. He continued to fight even after three bullets. Stayed on the enemy’s front until and the soldiers reached for help. He was awarded the ‘Paramveer Chakra’ for this valor.

May 3, 1999: Local shepherds reported the Indian Army about the presence of Pakistani troops and terrorists in Kargil.
May 5, 1999: Indian Army patrols were sent in response to initial reports of shepherds. Pakistani soldiers caught and killed five Indian soldiers. The Pakistani Army destroyed the Indian Army’s ammunition reserves in Kargil.
10 to 25 May 1999: During this time there were also reports of infiltration in Dras, Kaksar and Muskoh sectors. India sent more soldiers from Kashmir to strengthen security in Kargil district. The Indian Army started ‘Operation Vijay’ to control the occupied peaks.
26 May 1999: Indian Air Force launched ‘Operation White Sea’ and launched airstrikes on Pakistani bases.
27-28 May 1999: The Pakistani Army killed three fighter aircraft (MiG-21, MiG-27 and MI-12) of the Indian Air Force.
June 9, 1999: Indian soldiers again take over two important peaks of Batalik sector.
June 13, 1999: After a heavy battle, the Indian Army again captured the strategically important tooling peak in the Dras sector.

Story of martyr Sunil Mahat
Kargil Day matters a lot to those who have lost their loved ones. Seeing the album with his family members, Bina remembers how his son was targeted by enemy bullets in war.
