Strong earthquake tremors were felt in many parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan late on Friday night. At least eight people are reported to have lost their lives in this natural disaster in Kabul. The intensity of the earthquake is said to be 5.9 on the Richter scale, the impact of which was seen in many states of India. The administration has now started relief and rescue operations in the affected areas and health services have been put on alert.
Where was there loss of life and property due to the earthquake?
Eight members of a family died after a house collapsed on the outskirts of Afghanistan’s Kabul province. Kabul Governor’s spokesperson Hafizullah Basharat has confirmed the accident and said that a child has also been injured. Two people have also been reported injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area of Pakistan. However, no major loss of life or property has been reported so far from Pakistan’s Punjab and Islamabad provinces. Officials say that it may take some time to get complete information from remote areas.

The epicenter of the earthquake was deep underground in the Hindu Kush mountains, about 32 kilometers from the Jurm area of Afghanistan. According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, these tremors were felt at 9.13 pm. In India, people of Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir also came out of their homes out of fear due to the tremors. Islamabad Police IG has instructed all officers to remain alert in their respective areas and provide immediate help in case of any emergency. Afghanistan’s Health Ministry has also asked hospitals in Kabul and surrounding provinces to be fully prepared.
