The US government has said that for all the new H1B visa applications submitted after September 21, a fee of US $ one lakh will have to be paid which was recently announced by President Donald Trump.
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said in the ‘H-1BFAQ’ document released on Sunday that the September 19 announcement has taken “important, initial and variable steps” towards reform in the H-1B visa program to prevent miscarriage and protect American workers.
According to the FAQ document, the government order states that “on September 21, 2025, it is mandatory to pay $ 100,000 with any new H1B visa application to be submitted after 12:01 pm.
The USCIS said in a statement on Saturday that this fee would be applicable only to new applications.
A White House official told PTI that the $ 100,000 fee “will first apply in the next upcoming lottery cycle.”
The USCIS clarified that the fee would not be applicable to any application filed before the time limit of 12:01 pm on September 21, H-1B visa, renewal application and H-1B visa holders re-entering the US.
The FAQ document states that the government order has asked the Ministry of Internal Security and the Ministry of External Affairs to establish coordination in implementing it.
