The situation has become very tense in Balochistan province of Pakistan. Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has launched the biggest ever attack on security forces under ‘Operation Hereof Phase-2’. In this attack that started on January 31, BLA has claimed that they have killed more than 200 security personnel. The most special thing about this attack was that the women rebels came forward and took charge.

Who are the women who attacked ISI headquarters?
The names of two young women of Majeed Brigade have figured prominently in this attack. Asifa Mengal, 24, carried out a suicide attack on the ISI headquarters in Noshki. According to reports, they carried out the attack using a vehicle filled with explosives. Asifa had joined Majeed Brigade on her 21st birthday.
On the other hand, 21-year-old Hawa Baloch alias ‘Drusham’ opened direct fire with security forces in Gwadar. BLA also released a video of Hawa Baloch which was recorded 12 hours before her death. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has also admitted in Parliament that female suicide bombers were involved in these attacks.
What is the difference between the damage caused by the attack and the claims?
There is a huge difference between the figures of BLA and Pakistan government regarding this attack. The government says it has killed 177 militants in retaliation, while the BLA has admitted killing only 18 fighters. The claims of both sides can be seen in the table below:

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has made it clear that there will be no talks with BLA. Mobile internet services have been stopped in areas like Quetta, Gwadar and Noshki. These attacks have also affected projects related to CPEC and a ‘red alert’ has been issued regarding security.
