Oman Airports has issued an extremely important warning for passengers. If you are traveling through Muscat International Airport or any airport in Oman, avoid taking photos or videos there. In this official notice issued on March 5, 2026, it is clearly stated that taking photographs of the airport facility or other passengers is strictly prohibited. This step has been taken to protect operational security and people’s privacy.
What are the punishments and rules for taking photos?
Oman’s Public Prosecution has made it clear that taking photographs of sensitive places or security related areas is a legal offence. Although the airport’s tweet is an advisory, if a person takes or shares such pictures which violate security rules, then Cybercrime Code-18 may be applicable on him.
Those who break the rules can be fined between 1,000 and 5,000 Omani Rials. This amount is in lakhs in Indian rupees. Apart from this, in serious cases, there can be a jail term of up to 3 years. Therefore, passengers are advised not to make recordings with their cameras or mobile phones while on the airport premises.
There is strictness on flights and drones also
In view of the ongoing situation in the area, strict security arrangements have been made. The Civil Aviation Authority has indefinitely suspended permits for all drones and aerial activities from March 3. Muscat Airport remains a main hub for many evacuation flights.
Passengers have also been instructed to confirm flight timings with their airlines before leaving for the airport. Those waiting for evacuation flights have been asked to keep in touch with their embassies.
