Amidst the increasing tension in the Gulf countries, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have taken a big and important step. Both these countries have made it clear that they will not allow their land or airspace to be used for any American attack on Iran. This decision has been officially revealed on 27-28 January 2026. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has also spoken to Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian over phone and assured that he will not be a part of any military action.
How will America act now?
This decision of Saudi and UAE has increased the difficulties for America a bit. Now the US Army will not be able to use the airbases of these countries for its fighter planes. According to reports, America has now deployed its F-15 fighter planes at Salti Airbase in Jordan. Apart from this, America still has the option of launching missile attacks (Tomahawk) from the sea. American aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Oman USS Abraham Lincoln Has also reached, which is capable of taking action through sea.
What is the concern of Saudi and UAE?
Experts say that the Gulf countries want to remain completely neutral this time. They fear that if the US attacks from their soil, Iran could retaliate by targeting their oil wells and refineries. Iran has already warned that if they are attacked, they will launch ‘unlimited’ retaliation against US bases in the Gulf. Due to this fear, Saudi Arabia and UAE are trying to calm the matter through ‘dialogue and diplomacy’.
Latest updates and impact on flights
This tension is also affecting normal flights. The European Union agency EASA has advised all airlines to avoid flying over Iran until 16 February 2026. On the other hand, on January 31, some reports also claimed that Saudi Arabia’s Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman has held secret meetings with US officials in Washington. It was discussed that even though there is talk of peace externally, internally there is talk of stopping the influence of Iran.
