The US Justice Department has made public a huge collection of documents related to child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“I’m not a sex offender, I’m just a criminal. It’s the same difference as between a murderer and someone who steals a loaf of bread.”

-Jeffrey Epstein, New York Post, 2011

The US Justice Department has made public a huge collection of documents related to child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This documentary treasure trove of thousands of files includes photographs of the late financier Epstein and his partner, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, with many of the most influential figures of the last century. These pictures clearly show what kind of relationships Epstein and Maxwell built and maintained with royal families, politicians, musicians and even film artists.

As soon as the “files” became public, it seemed as if the skeletons hidden in the cupboard started falling out one by one. Every day, a new name, every time a big face. Among them is the name of US President Donald Trump. Although these names and photographs do not in themselves indicate any kind of crime, but the association of these people with Epstein, especially in the background of these images continuously circulating on social media, seems to be fraught with questions of morality and immorality. Its impact is limited to America only. No. Its impact is widespread across countries and continents.

Jeffrey Epstein died suddenly on August 10, 2019, in a New York jail cell. According to officials, he had hanged himself. The trial against him on sex trafficking charges had not even started and he had no chance of getting bail while waiting for the trial. Maxwell, on the other hand, is serving a 20-year prison sentence for child sex trafficking. The disclosure of the names in the Epstein files has led to a wave of resignations and a variety of uncomfortable, embarrassing consequences among powerful people around the world. There have been many resignations in many countries, especially in Europe. Prince Andrew was also arrested and later granted bail but lost his title. However, there is silence in America and some other countries.

However, the rot runs deeper than meets the eye. While it is not yet clear what the legal implications will be, the question remains, will this be yet another story of the rich and famous getting away with it, or will justice ultimately prevail, no matter how long it takes. At least the plea for justice of his minor victims should be heard.
