Defense agreement with Saudi Arabia is not against any third country: Pakistan

Pakistan said on Friday that the recent mutual defense agreement with Saudi Arabia is not against any third country.

He said that this agreement reflects the commitment of both countries to increase defense cooperation and ensure joint security.

Addressing the Patheral Press Conference here, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafkat Khan described the agreement as “a milestone to promote peace and security in the region and the world”.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday signed a strategic mutual defense agreement, according to which any attack on the two countries would be considered “invasion against the two”.

The agreement is reached a few days after the Israeli attack on Hamas leadership in Qatar, a major ally of the US in the Gulf region.

Commenting on the development, India on Thursday said that it would study the impacts of the move on its national security as well as regional and global stability.

Khan said, “This (compromise) is of defensive nature and not against any third country. This will contribute to regional peace, security and stability. ”He said that there is a unique bond of brotherhood and cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
