Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to President Draupadi Murmu on the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day.
Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said in a post shared on
This message from Xi Jinping comes after the normalization of relations between the two neighboring countries after months of standoff. In October last year, China and India resumed direct flights.
The commitment in this regard was expressed during the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to India in August 2025. During bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, both sides had agreed to resume direct flight service between China and India at the earliest and finalize an updated air services agreement. They also agreed to provide visa facilities for tourists, businesses, media and other visitors in both directions.
In a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) leaders’ summit on August 31, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the need to strengthen people-to-people ties through direct flights and visa facilitation.
Earlier this month, on January 14, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, to review the positive progress in bilateral relations. Sharing details of the meeting, the Ministry of External Affairs said that both sides discussed ways to further enhance relations by increasing people-to-people exchanges and addressing concerns on sensitive issues.
On January 13, leaders of the Chinese Communist Party met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale at the RSS headquarters. This meeting lasted for about half an hour. According to sources, it was a courtesy call initiated at the request of the CCP delegation and no formal agenda was discussed.
The CCP delegation also visited the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters, where they met BJP general secretary Arun Singh and party foreign affairs department convenor Vijay Chauthaiwale. Sources described the conversation as part of regular exchanges and clarified that both the meetings should not be considered as formal or policy level meetings.
