SpiceJet’s flight SG041 going to Kathmandu was reported to be suspected telpipe fire at Delhi Airport on Thursday. The precautionary aircraft was brought back to Bay after takeoff. The airline said that a detailed engineering check of the aircraft was conducted and no technical fault was found.
The flight was operating on Boeing 737-8 aircraft. The flight flew from Delhi at around 3 pm and landed in Kathmandu at 5:10 pm. The flight was to leave in the morning, but there was a delay of about 7 hours.
SpiceJet said in his statement, “On 11 September 2025, an aircraft from Delhi to Kathmandu returned when another aircraft on the ground reported the suspected telpipe fire. There was no warning or indication in the cockpit, but the pilots decided to bring back the aircraft.”
After investigation, the aircraft was declared safe for flight and permission for operations. Information about how many passengers were riding in the aircraft could not be available immediately. According to the information, the tailpipe fire is considered an internal disturbance of the jet engine, usually during the engine start or shutdown on the ground.
