Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, his wife sentenced to 17 years in prison in corruption case

Pakistan’s accountability court on Saturday sentenced jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years’ imprisonment each in the Toshakhana corruption case.

Imran Khan was first arrested on corruption charges on May 9, 2023. In August 2023, he was arrested again in the Toshakhana case. This new punishment for the former Pakistani Prime Minister and Cricket World Cup winning captain has come at a time when the Pakistan government is being criticized for the alleged misbehavior with Imran Khan inside the jail. Even the United Nations has demanded Khan’s release from solitary confinement.

According to Geo News, a special court on Saturday sentenced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years of rigorous imprisonment each in the Toshakhana 2 case. Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand gave this decision after conducting 80 hearings in Adiala Jail. This case pertains to the purchase of an expensive Bulgari jewelery set at a nominal price.
