US President Donald Trump once again reiterated his claim of resolving the conflict between India and Pakistan, saying that he ended eight wars but still did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
“I ended eight wars,” Trump said in an interview with The New York Times last week. If you look at those wars, these were also very difficult wars which were not easy to end. And let me tell you that India and Pakistan were fighting among themselves. As you know they were face to face… but this was one of those eight wars. We ended eight major wars. Some had been going on for more than 30 years.” He also claimed that no one else had ended eight wars except him. He again criticized former President Barack Obama’s award of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009.
“Remember, I have ended eight wars,” Trump said. No one else ever did this. I ended eight wars and did not get the Nobel Peace Prize. This is really surprising. Obama got it. He was there for a few weeks and he got the award. He himself didn’t even know why he got it. When he was asked why he was given this, he could not answer.
Trump has claimed about 80 times so far to stop the conflict between India and Pakistan. He had announced on social media on May 10 last year that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “complete and immediate” ceasefire after “late night” talks brokered by Washington. India has consistently denied any third-party mediation.
On Friday, during a meeting with executives of oil and gas companies regarding Venezuelan oil reserves at the White House, the official residence and office of the US President, Trump said, “Look, whether people like Trump or not, I solved eight major wars.” Some were running for 36 years, 32 years, 31 years, 28 years and 25 years. Some were just getting started, like India and Pakistan, where eight jets had already been shot down and I ended it very quickly without nuclear weapons.
Trump also said that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has credited him for saving millions of lives by preventing conflict between the two nuclear armed neighbors. Sharif had come to the White House last year.
The US President said, “The Pakistani leader had given a public statement. He said that President Trump saved the lives of at least one crore people by stopping the conflict involving India and Pakistan, otherwise the war would have started.
Earlier, in an interview given to ‘Fox News’ on Thursday, Trump had said that he stopped the war between India and Pakistan. During this, he again claimed that eight aircraft were shot down in the conflict between the two countries. He said that there should be a Nobel Prize for stopping every war.
