India suspended Indus Water Treaty
Islamabad: After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty, taking tough measures. Knowing what Pakistan has done after this move of India, you will laugh. The Government of Pakistan has decided to stop the controversial Cholistan Canal Project. The thing to understand is that when there is no water, then what will Pakistan do by creating a canal.
Bakheda stood in Sindh
Army Chief General Aseem Munir and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the Cholistan project in February for irrigation of the desert region of Punjab province. However, there was an uproar over the move in Sindh province. Various political parties, including the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), started protests against the project. It is seen to see that Pakistan is part of the ruling alliance with Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) at the PPP center.
One has become one of Sharif and Bilawal
After India suspended the Indus Water Treaty, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif met PPP President Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and agreed to stop the canal project. The two parties had also agreed that the controversial canal project would be suspended until the high-level inter-pensil body ‘Council of Common Interests’ would not have been consensus on the issue to deal with the disputes between the provinces.

Decision will be taken by mutual consent
According to Dawn’s news, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif while addressing reporters along with Bilawal said that the two sides have considered the situation in the country and the announcements of India related to rivers. He said, “In the meeting between PPP and PML-N, we have decided with mutual consent that no other canal will be built until a decision is taken by mutual consent. There will be no further progress on the canals without consensus between the provinces.” (Language)
