A heart-wrenching incident has come to light in Narsingdi district of Bangladesh. Here, just before the upcoming national elections, unknown assailants burnt a 23-year-old Hindu youth alive. This young man named Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik was sleeping inside a car repairing workshop when the shutters were closed from outside and set on fire. This incident has created an atmosphere of fear among the minority community living there.
What is the whole matter?
The incident took place in Police Lines area of Narsingdi city, about 50 kilometers from the capital Dhaka. The deceased Chanchal Chandra Bhowmik worked as a mechanic in a nearby garage and was the only earning member of his family. He was a resident of Barura upazila. Late on Friday night, when he was sleeping inside the garage after finishing work, unknown people carried out this incident. This incident has happened at a time when general elections are going to be held in Bangladesh on 12 February 2026.
How did the young man die?
According to local people and reports, the attackers locked the shutter of the garage from outside so that Chanchal, who was sleeping inside, could not come out. After this, petrol was poured there and fire was set. A huge quantity of petrol, engine oil and other flammable substances were already kept in the garage, due to which the fire immediately took a terrible turn. Chanchal did not get any chance to get out and died on the spot due to suffocation and burns.
What came to light in the police investigation?
Narsingdi Superintendent of Police Abdullah Al Farooq has informed that the police has collected CCTV footage from the incident site. In the footage, some people are seen setting fire and running away. Police teams are investigating, but there is no news of anyone’s arrest yet. Since last December till now, many incidents of violence have taken place there, due to which questions are being raised regarding security.
