Israel demolished a big building in the middle of Beirut, 6 dead and search for many people continues in the debris.

On March 18, 2026, the Israeli army carried out heavy air strikes in the central areas of Lebanon’s capital Beirut. In these attacks, a multi-storey building in Bachoura area has been completely turned into a pile of debris. Lebanese rescue teams and civil defense are working continuously to rescue people buried under the debris. Lebanon’s Health Ministry, in its initial report, has confirmed 6 deaths and 24 injuries.

Attack on residential areas without warning

At around 1:30 in the morning, there were sudden attacks on residential apartments in Zugaq al-Blatt and Basta areas. According to officials, no prior warning was issued for these attacks. A few hours later, at 5:30 in the morning, a big building was blown up by airstrike in Bachora area. The Health Ministry has said that the condition of the bodies of those who died is so bad that DNA test will be required to identify them. At present, rescue workers are using heavy machines and hands to remove the debris and there is every possibility of the death toll increasing in the future.

Israeli army statement and 300 meter rule

Regarding this attack, the Israeli Army (IDF) has claimed that the targeted building was being used by Hezbollah for its operations. Before the Bachhoura attack, an IDF spokesman warned on social media that people should move at least 300 meters away from marked buildings. Lebanese security forces have completely closed several main roads to make way for ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has demanded an immediate stop to this destruction so that more people are not left homeless in the capital. Due to these attacks, more than 1 million people have fled their homes across Lebanon.
