The third Saudi expansion of the Grand Mosque in Mecca is now all set to serve devotees. This is considered to be the biggest development work ever done in the history of the mosque. According to the General Authority, the total area of this new expansion is more than 12 lakh square meters. To provide a cool feeling to the pilgrims coming here even in summer, a cooling system with a capacity of 90,000 tonnes has been installed, which will maintain a comfortable environment throughout the year.
What facilities will the passengers get?
Under Saudi Vision 2030, the government has made many major arrangements for the convenience of travelers. More than 25,000 new carpets have been laid for those offering Namaz. To quench the thirst, 17,000 Zamzam water dispensers and 458 drinking fountains have been installed across the campus, so that no one faces any water problem.
Special care has been taken for the elderly and people unable to walk. 428 escalators and 28 lifts have been installed to reach the upper floors. This will also reduce crowding and people will be able to move easily. To ensure that the voice is heard clearly, 1,300 speakers have been installed. Also, more than 11,436 washrooms and ablution units have been prepared.
Preparation and important rules for Ramadan 2025
The entire focus of the administration is now on the upcoming Ramzan season, which is expected to start around March 2025. This new extension will be open 24 hours and entry here is absolutely free. However, it would be good to know some important things before going there.
Luggage: It is prohibited to carry big bags or heavy items inside the prayer hall. Use the locker outside for this. Permit: No separate permit is required for offering Namaz in the extended area, but for Umrah and ‘Rawda’ in Madinah, it is necessary to obtain permit from Nusuk App. Crowd Management: It is mandatory to follow the routes and rules given by the security personnel so that a stampede-like situation does not arise.
