Modi assured not to buy oil from Russia: Donald Trump’s claim

US President Donald Trump has claimed that his “friend” Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured him that India will now stop buying oil from Russia. Trump also said that this step would be a “big step” towards increasing pressure on Russia to stop the invasion of Ukraine. However, the Indian government has not confirmed Trump’s statement. At the same time, this step will strengthen Trump’s efforts to put pressure on Moscow to end the war in Ukraine. Trump said that oil will not be available. He is not buying oil.

Trump said that this is a big step. Now we are going to get the same work done from China also. At the same time, according to Reuters, the Indian Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to an emailed query asking whether Prime Minister Modi had made any such commitment to Trump.

India’s promise to stop buying Russian oil marks a potential turning point in global energy diplomacy, as Washington steps up efforts to block Moscow’s oil revenues amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Trump has been frustrated by his efforts to end the war in Ukraine, which began with Russia’s invasion nearly four years ago. He has expressed dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he describes as the biggest obstacle to a solution, and is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday.

Let us tell you that India is the second largest buyer of Russian oil after China, and hence Trump had increased the tariff on India in August. While talking to reporters, Trump said that India cannot stop the shipment immediately, he said that this is a slightly big process, but this process will be completed soon.
