Earlier on Thursday, leaders of Generation-Zee protests collectively supported former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as their candidate for the interim Prime Minister at a press conference, which cited his honesty and freedom after the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli after widespread protests across the country.
The leading young leaders in the demonstrations also said that comprehensive corruption and political deadlock were the main reasons behind their mass mobilization against the government.
Jane Zee leader Diwakar Dangal said, “We are doing this agitation against corruption, as it is spread on a large scale.”
He reiterated the frustrations of thousands of young Nepalis who took to the streets in Kathmandu and other major cities from 8 September.
Another leader of Generation Zee, Junal Gadal, stressed the choice of leadership for the transition period, saying, “We should choose Sushila Karki as the country’s mentor as the best option.”
Karki, the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal, is widely known for her attitude against judicial and political corruption.
Jane Zee -led movement, which began as a peaceful protest, saw several moments of violence and anarchy, for which leaders blame political intruders.
Generation Zee leader Anil Baniya said, “We had called for a peaceful protest, but political activists set arson and then vandalized the infrastructure. We are not trying to change the constitution, but want to make the necessary amendments. Through online surveys, the leaders of the Generation Zed have voted for Sushila Karki. We will contest within six months.”
Balendra Shah ‘Balen’, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has also expressed his support for Karki, which has strengthened his position as a possible candidate for the Jane Z movement.
Protests began in other major cities including Kathmandu and Pokhara, Butwal and Birganj on 8 September, 2025, after the government banned major social media platforms citing concerns over tax revenue and cyber security.
According to a statement issued by the Nepali army, curfew has been imposed in several cities including Kathmandu to control the situation, which will continue till 5 pm today and will be re -implemented from 7 pm to 6 am on Saturday.
Demonstrating rule is demanding to end “institutional corruption and bias”. They want the government to be more accountable and transparent in its decision -making process.
The frustration of the public further increased when the “Napo Babies” trend on social media exposed the luxurious lifestyle of the children of politicians and exposed the economic inequality between them and common citizens.
