Russia’s mysterious shortwave radio station UVB-76, known around the world as “Doomsday Radio” or “The Buzzer,” has once again stoked global concerns. 15 mysterious messages have been broadcast from this radio station in a single week, which are considered unusual in themselves.
Usually this station becomes active only once or twice a month, that too when there is a major crisis at the international level. The last time such a broadcast was seen was during the beginning of the Russia–Ukraine war in February 2022.
when and what aired
According to the information,
3 messages on Monday,
8 messages on Wednesday,
And there were continuous broadcasts for more than three hours in the early hours of Wednesday.
This lengthy broadcast ran from 1:07 to 4:26 a.m. US time, consisting of light music, constant buzzing, and long Morse code signals.
Some strange words were spoken in these messages, like –
PEPPER SHAKER, TRANSFER, PABODOLL, SPINOBAZ, FRIGORIA, OPALNY, SNOPOVY and MYUONOSVOD.
There is no clear or universally accepted meaning of these words, which has further deepened the mystery.
The word ‘LATVIA’ increased concern
According to Russian state media reports, mention of the word LATVIA also appeared in a message broadcast on November 17. The message was stated something like this –
“NZHTI NZHTI 15854 LATVIA 5894 4167”
This point is considered to be the most worrying for Europe.
Why is there fear of war in Europe?
Latvia is a member country of NATO. If Russia attacks Latvia, then under Article 5 of NATO, all member countries including America, Britain, France and Germany will have to go to war. Experts believe that such a situation could engulf the whole of Europe in the fire of war, and the situation could even reach nuclear confrontation.
Fear related to ‘dead hand system’
Experts believe UVB-76 may be linked to the Soviet-era ‘Perimeter’ or ‘Dead Hand’ system. It is considered a nuclear fail-safe system, under which if a nuclear attack on Russia destroys its command system, then this signal can automatically launch a retaliatory nuclear attack.
warning from leaders
Amidst these incidents, European leaders are also openly expressing concern.
British Minister Al Carnes has warned that “the shadow of war is knocking on the door of Europe.”
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said, “Russia has brought war back to Europe. We have to be prepared for a conflict on the same scale that our grandfathers and great-grandfathers saw.”
