‘Potential India-Pakistan nuclear war stopped, 8 planes shot down’: Trump again reiterated his claim

United States President Donald Trump once again claimed to prevent war between India and Pakistan.

Responding to a question during an interaction with reporters, President Trump claimed that eight aircraft were shot down in the four-day standoff between India and Pakistan following Operation Vermillion launched by New Delhi in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people lost their lives.

He said, “I have resolved eight wars. The ongoing dispute between Thailand and Cambodia is now beginning to resolve, but I think we have handled the situation to a great extent. We prevented a possible nuclear war between Pakistan and India. The Prime Minister of Pakistan said that President Trump saved the lives of 10 million people, maybe even more. Eight planes were shot down. That war was about to erupt. The only war I have not resolved yet is Russia-Ukraine War.”

President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that he used trade tariffs to prevent a potential large-scale war between the neighboring countries, and has said that his intervention “ended the conflict within 24 hours”. India has denied his claims.

New Delhi says that shocked by the heavy damage, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called the Indian DGMO and both sides agreed to stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea from May 10.

Meanwhile, when Trump was asked about peace talks over the Russia-Ukraine war, he said, “There are talks going on between Russia and Ukraine… There is tremendous hatred between President Putin and President Zelensky.”

Recently, peace talks were held in Miami, Florida, after which US President Donald Trump’s foreign envoy Steve Witkoff said that Russia is “fully committed to achieving peace” in Ukraine.

“Over the past two days in Florida, Russian Special Envoy Kirill Dmitriev had productive and constructive meetings with the US delegation to advance President Trump’s peace plan on Ukraine. The US delegation included Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and White House staffer Josh Gruenbaum,” the US envoy said.

“Russia is fully committed to establishing peace in Ukraine. Russia greatly values the efforts and support of the United States to resolve the Ukrainian conflict and restore global security,” the statement said.

Talks were held between Russia and the United States, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky calling on Washington to increase pressure on Moscow.

Steve Witkoff and Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustam Umerov described the Ukrainian delegation’s meetings with American and European counterparts in the wake of the peace accord discussions in Miami as “productive and constructive.”

In a joint statement, they said the separate meetings were held to further develop US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan, bring uniformity in the stance on the multilateral security guarantee framework, and bring uniformity in the stance on the US security guarantee framework for Ukraine.
